Local Stars’ Coach Braces For Final

Maxwell kunaduMaxwell Konadu has praised his players for their fighting spirit after labouring to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 to reach the final of the Wafu Nations Cup.

“I like the fighting spirit of the boys. They showed they can really fight to the very last minute and that is what they did,” Konadu said at the press conference.

“Even though the Burkinabes were trying to just pin us to our won half but tactically we were on top of our game and it worked for it. ”

Ghana will meet the Group B winners tomorrow’s final at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Meanwhile, coach Konadu has admitted to the difficulty of the WAFU tournament.

The team’s progress was however boosted by Benin’s failure to beat Sierra Leone in the group’s other game in Obuasi which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Ghana now has the opportunity to challenge for the title before their home fans but coach Maxwell Konadu admits the campaign has been very difficult.

“The competition so far has been very very difficult especially for us,” he said.

“And in this match you will agree with me that our colleagues gave us a really tough match.

“Despite these difficulties, the players did their best to win this match.

“I can only congratulate them for their efforts but not to end here.”

Ghana now awaits the winner from Group B to complete the final draw for the one-week tournament.

According him, he is now keen on winning the Wafu Nations Cup after reaching the final.

The eight-team tournament has been beneficial to the hosts who are playing their first competitive match since the team was put together.

The local Black Stars will face either Senegal or Benin in the final but Konadu is not fixated on winning the trophy.

“We will try and do that. From the beginning of this tournament, we said that we will be using it as a preparatory tournament before the main one (CHAN finals),” Konadu said.

“That is why we are giving as many players as possible the opportunity to have a feel of international football so we will do our best to win the tournament if we get the chance.”
