Mawuli Osei Makes It Again

osei mawuliGhana’s Mawuli Osei continues to make stunning waves in Israel, scoring week after week in the Liga Leumit.

He was in fine fettle in Hapoel Ashkelon’s penultimate game against city rivals Hapoel Petach Tikva last weekend as he opened the floodgate for his side with a spectacular 20th minute goal – before serving as assistant for the second in the 84th minute.

That victory took Ashkelon to second spot on 25 points – and raising Osei’s goal tally to 14 in 13 games.

“I give God the glory for my exploits and I hope to hit a record goal-haul should things continue this way,” he told the Times Sports on Tuesday.

The curtain on the first round of the Liga Leumit was lowered on Monday, with the second round expected to start tomorrow.

Nicknamed the ‘Black Messi,’ Osei put up an exhilarating performance last season – after cracking home 19 goals in 26 games -and missing the ‘Goal-king’ coronet only by two goals.

Having been in mesmerising form for Ashkelon in the first round, many have tipped the 24-year-old former Liberty Professionals goal-poacher to swagger away with the top scorer’s award in Israel this term.

With the senior national team, Black Stars’ forwardline not fiery enough, experts of the Ghanaian game have called on the football controlling authority to offer Osei an opportunity to prove his mettle. By John Vigah
