Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, the Ameer and Missionary in Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana has urged the citizenry to vote for politicians with high moral values than on faith.

He explained that there was no need for Christians and Muslims to vote for politicians, who belong to their faith, when they know they were not morally upright to lead the nation.

Maulvi Bin Salih was speaking on the sidelines at the 52nd Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Hampshire in the United Kingdom.

The Annual event also known as Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in UK, is a unique event that brings more than 35,000 participants from over 100 countries.

The three-day event, which started from Friday, August 3 and ended on Sunday, August 5, is to increase religious knowledge and promote a sense of peace and brotherhood among Ahmadi Muslims.

Maulvi Bin Salih said the situation, where citizens vote for leaders, simply because they belong to their religious faith would not help in the development of the country.

He noted that politics had affected religion greatly, because “you find a Muslim or a Christian, who is not prepared to vote for a politician, who has moral values but will rather vote on religious lines.

“Instead of voting on religious lines, they should vote for politicians, who upholds high moral values to lead, l think the challenge with the selection of leaders for the country is as a result of citizenry not practicing their religions enough.

“Another thing that has taken centre stage in the country is materialism, why should a religious leader openly endorse a political candidate if not for a material gain.

A number of Parliamentarians, Civic Leaders and Diplomats from different countries addressed the gathering and underlined the convention’s objective of enhancing unity, understanding and mutual respect.

The highlight of the event was a mass pledge of allegiance to the World Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim, His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V.

His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V, who is the fifth successor of the Promised Messiah benevolent leadership, provided the community with unity, guidance and direction and ensuring that it remained devoted to God and to the service of humankind. -GNA
