Mason Impregnates House Help, 14

A 23-year-old mason, Jacob Kpomegbe, has been remanded into prison custody by a Sunyani circuit court for impregnating a 14-year-old house-help.

Convicted on his own plea, he would appear again in court on November 28, 2013 for sentencing by the court, presided over by Mr. John Ekow Mensah.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mawunyo Nanegbe told the court that eight months ago, the accused  and his master came to lodge with the complainant in Sunyani to undertake masonary work.

The prosecutor said unknown to the complainant the accused secretly had sex with his house help in her room resulting in a five-month-old pregnancy.

ASP Nanegbe told the court that the complainant recently detected that his house help was pregnant and when she was asked she mentioned the convict as being responsible.

Prosecutor Nanegbe said that the case was reported to DOVVSU leading to the arrest of the convict.

Meanwhile, in court on Thursday while prosecution of the case was going on, the father of the young girl barged into the courtroom and pleaded with the judge to discontinue the case, explaining to the judge that the harm had already been caused and that he preferred the matter to be settled at home but his plea was not taken.

The judge subsequently remanded the accused into prison custody, explaining that the case had to be looked into again per the existing laws.   From Daniel Dzirasah, Sunyani
