Mason, 52, Jailed For Defiling Girl, 4

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced a 52-year-old mason to 22 years imprisonment in hard labour, for defiling a four-year-old girl.

Robert Quaye, who pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was convicted on his own plea, was said to have lured the victim and had sex with her in an uncompleted building.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent Sarah Acquah told the court presided over Ms. Sedina Agbemava that the complainant, victim and the convict lived in the same neighbourhood at Abokobi Boi, a suburb of Accra.

She said convict took advantage of his closeness to the victim and abused her sexually.

She said on April 24, Quaye went to the victim’s house and asked her to buy him bread without the knowledge of her parents.

Immediately the victim left the scene, he went and hid himself in an uncompleted building.

When the victim was returning, he lurd her into the building and had sex with her.

In the course of the act, Efo Doe, a witness in the case, bumped into the uncompleted building and saw the victim lying down naked.

Convict took to his heels when he was confronted by Doe, but was later arrested and handed over to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Madina.
