ANTHONY Martial appears to have hit back at Manchester United following the club’s decision to hand his No.9 shirt to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
According to reports in France, United failed to inform Martial that they would be giving his number to Ibrahimovic this summer and it looks like he hasn’t reacted too well to the news.
The 20-year-old changed his cover photo and profile picture on Facebook after the squad numbers were released – and both images are dominated by the number nine.
United revealed their squad numbers for the 2016/17 season on Thursday and it was announced which numbers new signings Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as well as Ibrahimovic, would be wearing.
Bailly was handed the No.3 shirt and Mkhitaryan received the No.22 jersey while Ibrahimovic surprisingly got given Martial’s No.9 shirt, which saw the young forward switch to No. 11.
Bad taste, tact, consideration from Manchester United who gave the No.9 to Ibrahimovic without an agreement with Martial,’ RMC chief editor Mohamed Bouhafsi tweeted.
Regardless, he looks set to don Ryan Giggs’ famous No.11 shirt for the forthcoming season whether he likes it or not. – Metro Sports
