Manhunt for car thief

The Eastern Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for a car thief, who was only identified as Joe, who bolted with a taxi at a hotel at Suhum, in the Eastern Region, last Tuesday.

The Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Tetteh, in an interview with the Ghanaian Times, said Eric Nomesi, who drives a Hyundai Jet taxi cab with registration number ER 5076-16, reported to the Suhum police that on Monday, he was hired by the suspect to convey him from Adukrom-Akuapem to Suhum.

DSP Tetteh said the complaint told the police that the suspect, booked two rooms for the two to rest in a hotel, called Delako, in the Suhum municipality, at about 12p.m.

DSP Tetteh said the suspect went out and bought banku for the complainant to eat.

According to DSP Tetteh the driver, after eating the food, felt dizzy and slept until about 4p.m, adding that when the driver woke up, he realised the suspect, had taken away his taxi and mobile phone and bolted.

He said the victim thought Joe had gone out to run errands with the car, so he went back and slept till the following morning.

DSP Tetteh said the suspect has since not returned with the car and the mobile phone, and when his mobile phone number was called, it went through for the first time, but there was no response after subsequent call, and the phone has been switched off.
