Man stabs former UG student to death

•  Osei MensahTwenty-three-year-old man is in the grips of the police for allegedly stabbing a former student of University of Ghana (UG), Legon, to death.

George Osei Mensah, an intruder, who joined the bus from a funeral of a former resident of Common Wealth Hall, UG (Old Vandal) was said to have stabbed the deceased, Martin Tweneboah, also known as Tipsy,32 (former Vandal) after a heated argument.

Briefing the Ghanaian Times, the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Efia Tenge, said on December 9, 2017, Mensah and the deceased attended a funeral of a former Vandal at Dodowa, and on their return to Accra a misunderstanding ensued between them.

She said the two continued to argue on the way from the funeral and the issue escalated when they arrived on Legon campus at 6:40pm.

She said some eyewitnesses tried to calm them down but without success.

ASP Tenge said Mensah grabbed a knife from a khebab seller, near the Father Barcus statue at Commonwealth Hall, and stabbed the deceased several times in the neck.

She said the deceased bled profusely and was rushed to the Legon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

ASP Tenge said the police had cordoned the crime scene for investigations.
