Man slashes himself to death

A 33-year-old man last Sunday committed suicide by slashing his body with a cutlass at Owuraku near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The deceased, identified as Jacob Lassey, was reported to have slashed his head, stomach and other parts of the body which made him bled profusely to death.

Lassey’s body had since been deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra for preservation and autopsy.

The incident was reported to have drawn a large crowd, which thronged the crime scene to catch a glimpse of the mutilated body, whilst others were also spotted in groups discussing the tragedy.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kofi Sakordie,the Nsawam District Police Crime Officer, confirmed the tragedy to the Ghanaian Times here yesterday.

He said at about 1p.m. on Sunday, the Command received information that a young man (deceased) was inflicting cutlass wounds on himself at Owuraku.

The Crime Officer said personnel were dispatched to the scene but the deceased who was in pink shorts over a black ‘T’ shirt was found lying in supine position and in a pool of blood.

ASP Sakordie said the body was inspected and multiple knife wounds were found all over his body.

He said one Samuel Quaye,a nephew of the deceased, came to the scene and identified Lassey.

He said the cutlass, suspected to have been used for the crime, had been retrieved by the police as investigations into the case continued.
