Man remanded for possessing drugs

The Accra Circuit Court “One” has remanded a 51 -year-old man in police custody for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs.

Abu Odoi, a scrap dealer, was grabbed with 58 wrapped whitish substance suspected to be narcotic in a polythene at Cable and Wireless, Bubiashie, Accra, on November 25, 2017, by the Kaneshie District Police patrol team.

The accused pleaded not guilty, and was remanded in police custody by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, presiding judge, until December 6, 2017.

Superintendent Patience Mario told the court that the police received information that the accused was dealing in narcotics in the Cable and Wireless area at Bubiashie.

She said that on November 25, 2017, the police arrested Odoi with the substance and brought him to the Kaneshie police station.

Supt Mario said the accused indicated that he took the substance from the ground when some drug peddlers, who were chased by the police during a swoop, dropped it and ran away.

Odoi stated in his caution statement that he decided to use the narcotic and sell the rest to his friends.
