Police in the Savelugu-Nanton municipality in the Northern Region, have arrested one person in connection with the theft at the Municipal office of Electoral Commission (EC).
The Regional Police Public Relations, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed this to The Ghanaian Times in an interview yesterday, gave the name of suspect as Salifu Abukari.
He stated that the suspect who was apprehended on Monday evening at Savelugu, was helping the police in investigations.
ASP Tetteh stated that the police were trying to establish whether the suspect was alone or there were accomplices.
The Police PRO explained that there were EC inscriptions on the stolen items and asked the public to report any person in possession of such items to the police.
ASP Tetteh appealed to the general public to assist the police to apprehend the culprits.
It would be recalled that some equipment used for the just-ended limited registration exercise in the Savelugu-Nanton Municipality, were stolen from the EC’s office.
The criminals were said to have broken the louver blades of the window and made away with two system units, two computer monitors, SPL laptop and one personal laptop of the technician in the EC office.
The EC officials said the stolen equipment would not affected those who registered in the Municipality because the data on the equipment had been transmitted to the headquarters of the EC.
