A youngman, a member of a criminal gang, led his colleagues to rob his own father and some neighbours at Gulunpe in the Kintampo North municipality of the Brong-Ahafo Region.
Ibrahim Seidu, 20, and one of his accomplices, Amadu Nuhu, 22, were arrested later after they succeeded in stealing GH¢7,000 from the victims.
Briefing The Ghanaian Times, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Christopher Tawiah, said their accomplices were at large and that the police were pursuing them.
According to him, Ibrahim Seidu, on October 3, informed his gang that Alhassan Seidu, 72, his father, a cattle owner, had sold some of his cattle at the Buipe market and had come home with the money, so they planned to rob the father.
ASP Tawiah said Ibrahim and his gang broke into his father’s room while he was asleep, to steal the money but found only GH¢90.
Not satisfied with the amount, they took his single-barrel gun and went round the neighbourhood to rob others.
Mr. Tawiah said the gang succeeded in stealing a total of GH¢6,100 from people and went into hiding.
Mr. Tawiah said the victims reported the case to the police the following morning and the police commenced investigations into the case.
ASP Tawiah continued that the police was able to trace Ibrahim by following the footsteps and discovered the canvass he was wearing during the robbery and subsequently arrested him.
He said upon interrogations, the suspect mentioned his other accomplices leading to the arrest of Amadu Nuhu. Both are currently in police custody.
He said they would soon be processed for court.
