Man kills baby

Amidu Ibrahim, 33, has been arrested by the police at Bekpo, in Akatsi, in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region, for allegedly killing a baby girl, hours after she was given birth to, by his wife.

The mother of the baby, Sumanu Ladi, 28, reported the incident to the Akatsi police.

Chief Superintendent Joseph Dzineku, Akatsi South District Police Commander, told the GNA that Sumanu Ladi, mother of the baby, reported the case to the Akatsi Police.

The police commander said the couple lived together until the woman became pregnant and went to her parents in Benin and gives birth.

Chief Sup Dzineku said two years later, when Ibrahim followed his wife to Benin, he realised that his wife gave birth to a boy, and was pregnant for another man, but brought the woman and the boy to Ghana.

He said two months after the couple returned from Benin to Bekpo, a suburb of Akatsi, Sumani Ladi gave birth to a baby girl.

Chief Sup Dzineku said Ibrahim took the baby and absconded, and the woman raised the alarm, and residents of Bekpo searched and caught Ibrahim at a hideout.

He said during interrogation by the residents, Ibrahim allegedly said he was interested in the wife and not the baby, and later led them to where he dumped the body of the baby.

Chief Sup Dzineku said when the police got to Bekpo, they found the body of the body of the baby with the left arm chopped off and the left side of the head slashed with a sharp cutlass.

He said Ibrahim, who confessed killing the baby, was in police custody assisting in investigations.
