A 35-year-old man who defiled an eight-year-old girl at Kokompe, in Accra, on three occasions, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by an Accra circuit court.
Justice Asante, unemployed, was found guilty of defilement and convicted by the court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court that the girl and her parents were co-tenants of Asante at the Kokompe area.
She said at about 8 a.m., on March 25, last year, the girl’s mother noticed blood stains in her panties, and when she was questioned, the girl disclosed that when she returned from school the previous day, Asante called her into his room and forcibly had sex with her.
She disclosed that it was the third occasion.
She said Asante warned her not to tell anybody about the incident.
Inspector Atimbire said a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) and a medical form was issued to the victim to undergo medical examination and treatment.
On April 1, last year, Asante, who had fled the house, was arrested at his hideout and charged with the offence.
