Man in trouble for stealing copper earth wire

Residents of Tema Community 5 SSNIT Flats on Wednesday apprehended a man, for stealing system copper earth wires at electricity substation.

The suspect identified as Seidu was arrested in possession of copper earth wires and a knife.

The system copper earth is the material, which transmits power leakage into the general mass of the earth.

Though the removal of the cable did not affect power supply to the area, the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited, took steps to rectify the situation to avoid any fire outbreak to the transformer.

The Tema South District Manager of PDS, Mrs Cynthia Bannerman, told journalists that residents reported the case to staff of the PDS, who asked the police to arrest the suspect.

She said the company had observed that some unidentified persons remove fuse from transformer stations in order to create power outage.

Mrs Bannerman said the PDS had intensified security at electricity installations, and organised community durbars to sensitise residents to report suspicious people that they would see at installations, to the PDS.
