Man grabbed for robbing woman of handbag, mobile phone

The police last Sunday arrested Jonathan Dwumoh, a suspect, who allegedly robbed a woman of her handbag and mobile phone, at Dansoman, a suburb of Accra.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting in investigations, and his accomplice, yet to be identified, was on the run and being sought by the police.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge confirmed the arrest to the Ghanaian Timesin Accra, yesterday.

She said on February 24, at about 7:30pm, Dwumoh and his accomplice, on a motorcycle snatched a  bag and mobile phone from  their victim, who was on board an Uber vehicle  at Dansoman.

DSP Tenge said while the Uber driver chased the suspect and accomplice, he (driver) hit the suspects with his vehicle.

The PRO said the two fell, and the other accomplice escaped, and Dwumoh attempted to take the motorcycle, but was attacked by the residents.

DSP Tenge said but for the timely intervention of the Dansoman District Police Commander, DSP Victor Kwakye, the suspect would have been lynched by a mob.

She said the suspect was rescued and taken to the Police Command, but the motorcycle and the handbag were retrieved.

DSP Tenge said Dwumoh was identified by some mobile money vendors as the one who were robbed them of their moneys.
