ONE person died and two others were hospitalised shortly after consuming poisoned goat soup at Nyinahin Mpumah, in the Ashanti Religion.
The dead, Kwasi Owusu, 21, and his friends had reportedly stolen the soup prepared by the mother of one of them on Christmas Day and which was laced with poison.
According to the police the woman (name withheld), had been complaining of frequent thefts of meat from soups she prepared.
So on Christmas Day, she decided to pour poison in the soup in order to expose and punish the culprits, not suspecting that her own son was among the thieves.
After cooking, she left the soup in the kitchen and went out. Her son and his two friends stole some of the meat but soon after eating, they started suffering from stomach upset.
They were rushed to the Nyinahini Government Hospital for treatment by residents who heard them scream, but Owusu was pronounced dead on arrival.
The two others, whose names were yet to be given by the police were later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where they were receiving treatment.
The Atwima Mponuah District Crime officer, Thomas Freeman Asante, said the police had mounted a hunt for the woman.
