An Accra Circuit Court on Monday sentenced a man, 27, and unemployed to 20 years imprisonment for having sex with a six-year- old girl in the bush.
The man, Kwesi Asiamah, was found guilty of defilement by the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.
He was said to have committed a similar offence two years ago, but was discharged when the complainant and the victim failed to turn up in court.
Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire prosecuting, told the court that the victim lived with her mother, at Kuntunse, near Amasaman while the suspect lived at Pokuase, also near Amasaman in the Ga West District.
He said on July 23, at about 4 p.m., Asiamah met the victim who was returning from school on a bush road and offered to escort her to her parents.
But on their way, Asiamah grabbed and pulled the victim into a palm plantation and had sex with her.
The prosecution said the victim’s screaming during the act, drew a passer-by to the scene and on seeing what was happening, shouted for help.
Asiamah, on hearing the passer-by’s shouts took to his heels but was arrested with the help of some witnesses.
Asiamah and the victim were escorted to the parents of the victim who in turn, handed him over to the Police at Amasaman, who later transferred the case to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit.
