A 56-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 45-year-old wife with a pinch bar at Danchira, in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Kofi Owusu, a block factory owner, was also said to have inflicted wounds on his seven-year-old step-son, who is in critical condition at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Owusu and his wife, Faustina, had been married for over four years.
Owusu reported himself to the Amanfrom Police after the horrendous act.
The Accra Regional Police Public Relation Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Effia Tenge, confirmed the tragedy to the Ghanaian Times, and said the case had been transferred to the Homicide Department, of the Police Headquarters for further investigations.
A family source told the Times that Owusu had a heated argument with his wife, on Sunday evening, after she had returned from her hometown.
It said, the boy and a friend (names withheld) were watching television in the parlour when they overheard Owusu arguing with the mother.
According the source, Faustina rushed to the parlour followed by Owusu who pushed her to the floor and grabbing a pinch bar, started hitting her on the head and legs until she became unconscious.
The family source said the boy and his friend went to his mother’s rescue but Owusu turned on the boy and hit him several times, while the other boy fled.
The body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra awaiting autopsy.
