Man butchers grandmum over ‘stolen glory’

A 20-year-old man caused a stir at Siauna Number One, near New Edubiase, in Ashanti, on Friday when he allegedly killed his grandmother, accusing her of attempting to change his destiny for his younger brother.

Peter Ofori, the suspect, allegedly consulted a traditional priest to find out why he had failed in life.

According to the New Edubiase District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Martin Assenso, who confirmed the story to The Ghanaian Times, the fetish priest was said to have told him that he had a very bright future but it was changed by someone in favour of his younger brother, the Police Commander said.

He  said, Ofori, suspected his 85-year-old grandmother, Ama Agyei, and allegedly butchered her to death.

The District Police Commander said Ofori fled the cottage to Koforidua in the Eastern Region but was arrested.

The body of the dead had been collected by the police and deposited at the mortuary at the New Edubiase hospital, the police said.

Ofori, according to the police had admitted the offence and was put before New Edubiase Magistrate court.

He said the court, presided by Mr. Stanislaus Amanoipo remanded him to police custody.
