Man Attacks Aunt, 64, With Kitchen Knife

IMG-20140121-WA0006A 64-year-old retired police woman was yesterday attacked with a kitchen knife by her nephew at Dansoman in Accra, following a misunderstanding over money between them.

Ebenezer Agoah, 27, whom the police  alleged was mentally deranged, is said to have locked the aunt, Sarah Adukwei Allotey, in a room before stabbing her with the kitchen knife at different parts of body.

But for the intervention of police personnel who shot him in the legs, the woman would have been butchered to death.

Agoah, according to the police, had been on admission at the Psychiatric Hospital before.

The Dansoman Divisional Police Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Godfred Ferdinand Amengor, told The Ghanaian Times that  last Monday, January 20, at about 7 p.m., the police had a distress call that a man was killing a woman at Dansoman Sahara, a suburb of Accra.

The police proceeded to the scene and forced the door open, and  tried to disarm him, but he attempted to attack them.

The police fired warning shots to scare him, but he (Agoah) refused to surrender the knife, so they shot him in the legs and  disarmed him.

The police rushed both Sarah, who was bleeding profusely and Agoah to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Sarah has since been treated and discharged, while Agoah has been transferred to the Police Hospital and is under guard.

DSP Amengor said Agoah on that fateful day, demanded money from his aunt who told him to wait for a while, because she did not have it.

He later in the evening attacked, the aunt with the knife in a locked room. By Anita Nyarko
