Man arrested for illegally possessing pump action gun


A man alleged to have in his possession a pump action gun has been arrested by the police at Mallam in Accra.

Samuel Nii Okai, is currently in the custody of the police assisting in investigations and another accomplice, who is a pillion rider, is on the run and being sought by the police.

The Head of Public Relations of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

She said on August 14 at about 8p.m the Gbawe Lafa patrol police team arrested Nii Okai in possession of a pump action gun, GH¢718 cedis, one mobile phone, two lighters, two fried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, and a Prudential Bank cheque bearing the name of one Prince Essel, among others.

DSP Tenge said while the police team was on duty at Mallam Kokroko on the road they saw the suspect on a motorcycle as a pillion rider.

She said the police stopped them, but the rider escaped with the motorcycle, and Okai was arrested. When a bag he was carrying was searched a pump action gun was retrieved with the other items.

DSP Tenge said investigations were ongoing stating that the suspect would soon be arraigned.
