Man arrested for cultivating ‘wee’

weeThe police have arrested Kwadwo Kwaayie, 30, for cultivating a large Indian hemp farm, at Sefwi Mmrewa, in Sefwi Bekwai District of the Western Region.


The operation, led by the Bibiani Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Alex Wowolo, uncovered an Indian Hemp farm at Sefwi Mmrewa, the Ghanaian Times gathered.


The police had retrieved two sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp from the farm, and Kwaayie is in police custody while investigation into the matter continues.


Briefing the Ghanaian Times, the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said the Bekwai Police, last week, received information that Kwaayie from Sefwi Baakokrom had cultivated a large Indian hemp farm at Sefwi Mmrewa.


She said the police arrested Kwaayie, and later, Chief Superintendent Wowolo, led a team, including the Bekwai District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police ( DSP) Valentine Akposu, Divisional Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prosper Gbagbo, and 34 other personnel, who stormed Kwaayie’s farm at Sefwi Mmrewa.


ASP Adiku told the Ghanaian Times that the suspect led the police team to a farm in the forest, and showed them a large area covered with green plants, suspected to be Indian hemp, and a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.


She said the Divisional Police Commander ordered the destruction and burning of the plant.
