Man, 70, jailed for defiling girl, 5

Nana Ahenkofi, 7O.Nana Ahenkofi, 70, one of the two accused persons who defiled a five-year-old Kindergar-ten girl at Effia, in Takoradi last December, was yesterday sen-tenced to 10 years imprisonment, by the Takoradi Circuit court.

The sentence was passed by the court, presided over by Mrs. Rita Doko, after Ahenkofi had pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.

On February 16, when he appeared before the court, Ahenkofi and the other accused, Kofi Essoun, a 60-year-old farmer, pleaded not guilty to the charge and were both remanded in police custody. However, when the case was called yesterday, Ahenkofi changed his plea to guilty while Essoun, maintained his plea of not guilty.

The court, therefore, remanded Essoun in police custody to re- appear on March 30.

The accused had no legal representation.

The two, after defiling the girl, warned her not to tell anyone of her ordeal, or else, die.

Essoun, was said to be the first to defile the girl, after which Ahenkofi took his turn.

Their acts resulted in the girl bleeding profusely from her private part and anus.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Veronica Tipson, told the court that, in December last year, the mother of the girl (name withheld), saw   blood stains in her panties and when she questioned her, she said nothing had happened, and therefore, did not take it serious.

On February 9, at school, victim visited the toilet, but kept long coming out.

A female teacher who became worried about her   long delay in the toilet, went to find out what was happening only to find her in serious pains, with her panties soaked in blood.

Following a thorough examination, the teacher saw blood oozing from her private part and anus and, therefore, rushed her home.

She was rushed to the Kwesi-mintsim Hospital, where the doctors, after examination, confirmed that she had been defiled.

The case was therefore reported to the police and victim mentioned Essoun and Ahenkofi, as those who defiled her.
