Man, 54, shoots other over land ownership

A 54-year-old man was on Wednesday arrested by the police for allegedly shooting a 35-year-old man over ownership of land at Amasaman in the Ga West Municipal Assembly on Wednesday.

Nii Susubiribi also known as Nii, who is currently in the custody of the police assisting in investigations, was reported to have shot Nii Edmund Ayitey in the left thigh during the confrontation.

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Fredrick Adu Anim confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday.

He said on September 25, at about 4:30p.m, the complainant in the case, Nii Okai Mensah, who holds himself as the Dzasetse of Abehenease, and two others, reported to the police that they were confronted while working on land at Abehenease by Susubiribi, who described himself as the chief of Abehenease, and others, over the ownership of the land.

The Police Commander said in the course of the confrontation, Susubiribi removed a pistol from his pocket and shot Ayitey in the left thigh.

DCOP Anim said the victim sustained injuries and was rushed to the Amasaman Government Hospital and was currently responding to treatment. Susubiribi was arrested and the pistol retrieved.

DCOP Anim warned landguards who terrorise developers to desist from such acts or would be dealt with by the police.
