A 36-year-old man, Eric Opoku, has been apprehended by the police for allegedly stealing three mattresses worth GH¢2,950 from a shop at Abeka Flat Top, in Accra.
The Tesano District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Edward Tetteh, who confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, said on May 14, Opoku arrived in Accra from Kumasi in search of greener pastures.
The Police Commander said on reaching a shop at Abeka, he told the shop attendant (name withheld) that he wanted to purchase three mattresses.
DSP Tetteh said he hired the services of a truck passing by and told the shop attendant that he did not have money on him and that he was leaving some teenage boys there, to go for the money home and return.
He said the complainant agreed and allowed him to go with the goods.
The shop attendant having waited for hours to no avail asked the boys whether they knew the suspect but they replied in the negative.
DSP Tetteh said while searching for the suspect the shop attendant met the truck driver who transported the goods for Opoku to Mallam.
He said the two informed a patrol team which assisted in arresting the suspect at a house at Mallam.
DSP Tetteh said Opoku was in police custody assisting in investigations.
