A 28-year-old unemployed man has been jailed 15 years in hard labour by the Akim Swedru Circuit Court, for raping a trader.
Natido Kudjo, the convict, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before the court, presided over Mr. Emmanuel Plange Brew.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Fabian Sallah, told the court that the 19-year-old complainant lived at Akim Etwereso while Kudjo lived at Zevor all in the Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region.
Inspector Sallah said on July 6, at about 8am the victim was on her way to Zevor town to sell fish when the convict asked her to help him carry firewood to a nearby bush.
Whilst in the bush, Kudjo held her throat and forcibly had sex with her.
She subsequently lodged a complaint with police and the convict was arrested.—GNA
