Mahama: Govt inflicting hardships on citizenry

Former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has stated that the citizenry are angered by the leadership style of his successor, President Nana Akufo-Addo, a situation he said has inflicted unprecedented hardships on them.

He encouraged the citizenry to turn up in their numbers at the party’s demonstrations in order to vent its spleen on the government and insisted “there is a lot of pent-up anger among Ghanaians and it’s beginning to manifest even among the security services. This manifestation gives all the allied groups participating in it, the opportunity to vent their spleen.”

In a post on his Facebook timeline, the former President indicated that “it is in our country’s interest that we speak out and demonstrate our disapproval of the Akufo-Addo style of leadership, which has visited unprecedented hardships on Ghanaians”.

The ‘Kum yen preko’ demonstration is series of marches to protest against the government over ‘hardship and oppression’ in the country under the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

“Our country is on the downward trend, with an unbearable increase in the cost of living, the citizenry doesn’t feel safe and yet the government continues to oppress and intimidate them, this state of affairs is a threat to our democracy especially as the moral society remains unconcerned and surprisingly silent on the growth and development in our country, however, urged the citizenry to engage in demonstrations in order to show our anger against hardships, insecurity and oppression,” former President Mahama bemoaned. -ghanaweb.com
