‘Machomen’ invade school over feeding programme

A group of ‘machomen’ caused a stir when they stormed the Sokoban Methodist Primary School, in Kumasi, in an attempt to take over the school feeding programme.

The school children had to run helter-skelter for their lives as the group was said to have gone round turning tables upside down and threatening to beat up everyone on sight.

According to the caterer of the school, Hannah Darkwa, barely a week ago, three machomen approached the school to warn the school feeding programme officials to vacate their post, because it was their turn to take over the programme.

She said the group later brought an unidentified woman to the school and introduced her as the new person to be in-charge of the feeding programme.

But, she noted, the school’s authority made it known to them that it was not possible,  and explained the contract of the old officials had not expired. They left but threatened to come back.

“And lo and behold, a group of machomen, numbering about eight, yesterday morning stormed the school to force us out, but they took to their heels the moment they realised the head teacher had called the police,” the caterer indicated.

In another development a deaf and dumb man who allegedly aided a friend to rob a woman of her valuables is being pursued by the police here.

The 18-year old suspect, Koo Yeboah, was said to have teamed up with his 16-year old friend (name withheld because he is underaged) to rob Juliana Brefo, at knifepoint of her Samsung G-5 mobile handset worth about GH¢800.00 and cash of GH¢25.00 among other items at Aprade, near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Yeboah managed to escape but, the 16-year old was arrested by neighbours and handed over to the police, following an alarm raised by the victim.

The teenager was put before a circuit court here, presided over by Mrs  Patricia Amponsah and remanded into the Police Juvenile custody, to appear again on March 2,2017.
