Liverpool Complete £16m Mario Balotelli Transfer With Striker Penning Three-Year Deal

Liverpool have completed the £16million signing of Mario Balotelli.

The former Manchester City striker has returned to the Premier League after an absence of 18 months after agreeing to join from AC Milan on a three-year deal.

Liverpool also have the option to extend the deal to a fourth year, while Balotelli will wear the No.45 shirt, the same number he wore at City and Milan.

The deal was not completed in time for the maverick striker, 24, to line up for Liverpool against his former club City in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium yesternight.

But Balotelli traveled to the Etihad with five other Liverpool players not involved in the squad, and watched the match from the directors’ box.

Balotelli, who trained alone with a fitness and conditioning coach at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground earlier yesterday, went to the away dressing-room before kick-off with the rest of the players.

After the Premier League encounter between the Premier League’s top two last season, Balotelli traveled back from Manchester to Merseyside with the Liverpool squad on the team bus.

Balotelli could make his long-awaited Liverpool debut in their Premier League clash at Tottenham on Sunday at 1.30pm, subject to his registration going through in time.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers ruled out a move for Balotelli three weeks ago on the club’s tour of the US, but had a change of heart when Milan dropped their asking price.
