The management and staff of Lister Hospital have organised a diabetes screening exercise for the staff of Eco Bank at its head office in Accra as part of the activities marking its (hospital) 10th anniversary celebration.
Dr. Edem Hiadzi, Chief Executive Officer of Lister Hospital, said his outfit had decided to move to its clients because of their busy work schedules noting that most workers found it difficult to go for check-ups which resulted in complications that affected productivity.
About 350 workers of the bank were screened, advised and some referred for treatment.
Dr. John Kretchy, Physician Specialist at the hospital, advised the workers to check their weights and also do regular physical exercises and endeavour to reduce their alcohol intake especially during the coming Christmas festivities.
Mrs. Elizabeth Danyoh, President of the National Diabetes Association, called for a collaborative effort by both the country’s state health related agencies to create awareness in the disease saying over four million of the population are affected with diabetes.
