Liberty Professionals survives … As Wa All Stars crowned 2015/16 GPL champions

LIBERTYScientific Soccer lads of Ghana football, Liberty Professionals, yesterday survived the drop in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) when they beat Bechem United 3-1 in the final tie of the season at the Carl Reindorf Park yesterday.

That crucial win saw Liberty amass 38 points, a point richer than Techiman City who failed to crack the result over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park yesterday.

Techiman City, who gained premiership status this season joins Sekondi Hasaacas and New Edubiase back to division one football.

For Liberty, yesterday was a memorable day as they had their talisman Latif Blessing also clinching the Goal King race with a dream hat-trick that sent his goal-haul to 17.

Abednego Tetteh scored the consolation goal for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Wa All Stars were yesterday crowned the 2015/16 GPL champions, despite being thrashed 3-0 by already-relegated Hasaacas in the final lap at the Essipun stadium in Sekondi.

The Wa team made history last Wednesday beating Aduana Stars 2-1 at the Wa stadium to annex the club’s momentous title. They had been in an incredible shape all season.

Chelsea needed victory to secure their status in the top-flight while City chased a must-win badly.

But Eric Ametepe struck first for Chelsea before Stephen Owusu increased the tally. Nana Tei Horsu added his name to the score-sheet and Asiwome Fumador rounded up the win with a glorious finish.

Chelsea showed no mercy at all for Techiman as they thrashed their regional rivals 4-0 at the Golden City Park.

Youngster Eric Ametepe hit the opener in the 17th minute for the Blues after dazzling his way through at the back and firing home.

City came close twice in the dying embers of the action in the first-half but they failed to find the back of the net in a disappointing first-half.
