Let’s Win At All Cost!

black starsThe senior national team, the Black Stars, will tomorrow come face-to- face with the Pharaohs of Egypt, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, in what the connoisseurs of football describe as the ‘Battle for Survival’.

This is a match which would definitely decide the fate of the Black Stars who are playing at home in the qualification stage of the World Cup 2014 in far away Brazil.

The Black Stars need to win at all cost and with a wider margin to render the return encounter in Egypt, a mere formality.
Indeed, it is a herculean task since the Pharaohs would also not give in easily, conscious of the repercussion if they should lose this match.

Both teams abound in talented and skillful players who can be relied upon to break the back of each other. However, the odds favour the Stars who are playing in front of the thousands of citizens who would be rooting for them.

The tense atmosphere in the country is evidence of the seriousness and importance the nation attaches to tomorrow’s encounter, and the winning bonus of $15,000 each, as promised by President John Mahama, to the team should serve as a morale booster for the players to die for the nation.

Going by Captain Asamoah Gyan’s assurance that the team would stop at nothing to achieve the much-needed victory that would see Ghana in Brazil next year, we are confident that Coach Akwesi Appiah and his technical bench have done their bit to prepare the team adequately for battle.

It is a fact that the Pharaohs would be very dangerous on their home ground in Egypt, that is why Ghanaians expect the players to go all out and be prepared to die for the nation tomorrow.

While the Times asks the Black Stars to lift high the flag of Ghana, we equally expect the spectators to comport themselves in order not to attract sanctions from the world football governing body, FIFA, over any acts of misconduct.
We also need to intensify our prayers for the team to win convincingly and bring smiles to the faces of all.
Go Black Stars, Go! Give us the victory we want!
