‘Leave NPP Alone’

KwabenaThe New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong has lamented  the constant media intrusion into matters of the party saying, “the media should let the party’s issues rest a bit”.

According to him, the “party just ended its flagbearership aspirant endorsement by delegates on Sunday, and that the party has begun preparations for October 18”.

Mr.  Agyapong was responding to calls  by some bigwigs of the party for other aspirants to step down and allow Nana Akufo-Addo to be the automatic NPP presidential candidate for the 2016 general election, unmindful of the October 18 congress.

In  his response, Mr. Agyapong pointed out that “there are other happenings in the country, which also require the attention the media is giving to the aftermath of the NPP Special Congress”.

He added that the party’s constitution has been explicit that after, Special Delegates Congress to reduce the number of aspirants, there would be a National Delegates Congress to elect the flagbearer. It doesn’t matter whether there’s one aspirant or not.

He therefore pleaded with the media to tone down on the fuelling of incessant calls by some stalwarts of the party, pressurizing the other aspirants contesting the flagbearer-ship slot with Nana Akufo Addo, to step down.

He further pleaded with the stalwarts in the party who constantly urge the other aspirants to step down, to desist from the act  to calm tension in the party. starrfmonline
