Black Stars Head Coach, Kwesi Appiah has handed a late call-up to Red Star Belgrade defender Rashid Sumaila for the weekend’s 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Harambee Stars of Kenya.

The decision followed the injuries suffered by his trusted first choice defenders, John Boye and TSG Hoffeinheim stalwart, Kassim Nuhu.

Nuhu picked the injury on Saturday in TSG Hoffenheim clash with Freiburg in the German Bundesliga.

It came as a big blow not only for Appiah and the team but the defender who was hoping to use the opportunity to cement his position in the team.

It also came as a double blow for the Ghanaian coach who earlier missed Metz defender John Boye due to an injury he sustained.

Boye, 31, suffered the thigh injury during FC Metz’s French League Cup win over RC Lens.

He lasted just 15 minutes before he was replaced by Zambian centre-back Stoppila Zunzu.

Sumaila will join the team in Ethiopia today in Ethiopia where the team assembles and commences preparation for the Kenya clash.

Ghana leads the group after a 5-0 mauling of Ethiopia in the opening game of the qualifiers and will hope to defeat the Kenyans at the MISC Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

The game will witness the return of Kwadwo Asamoah to the fold after about a four-year absence due to injury concerns.
