The La Traditional Council yesterday received various items from the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) towards this year’s Homowo festival slated for August 24th at La in Accra.
The items included bags of maize, gallons of palm oil, cartoons of gin, boxes of mineral water, Schnapps, crates of Guinness, soft drinks and an undisclosed amount.
Presenting the items, Ms. Rita Odoley Sowah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE)of LaDMA, said the donation was an annual support from the assembly to the chiefs and people of La during the Homowo festival.
Ms. Sowah said chiefs and elders of the community remained the focal pillars in every decision taken in the community or local level and therefore, needs to be supported in diverse ways to discharge its mandates effectively.
She said chiefs played an integral role in shaping morals and maintaining peace in every community and therefore called on them to advise the youth to desist from all forms of activities that could forment trouble before, during and after the December 7 elections.
The MCE advised the youth to stay away from activities that have negative consequences, and rather engage in positive social programmes.
Ms. Sowah said the assembly was also sponsoring a football game between La and Osu and other activities to mark the celebrations.
A representative of Nii Kpobi Tetteh Tsuru, La Mantse received the item and applauded the assembly for the support over the years.
Nii Tsuru said the Traditional Council in collaboration with all the political parties and the assembly had served a notice of ‘No political party colours during the La Homowo festival’, he said.
La Mantse explained that the notice clearly informed all political parties within La to advise their followers not to wear any party colour dress to the ceremony.
On the coming elections, Nii Tsuru entreated the people of La and Ghanaians in general to ensure that the elections were peaceful.
