Labourer arrested for robbing woman

A 23-year-old labourer caused a stir when he raped a 28-year old woman after robbing her of her valuables, at Kokoso, in Kumasi

Armed with an axe and a machete, suspect, Johnson Duah, also known as Kofi Junior, was said to have broken into the room of her victim (name withheld), robbed her of her Toshiba laptop computer and an Infinix hot3 mobile handset.

But luck eluded him as he was arrested six days after the act, and charged with the offence of robbery.

Duah’s plea was not taken when he appeared on April 25, this year, before a district court, presided by Mr Abubakar Adams Abass, which remanded him into prison custody to appear again on May 11, this year.

Inspector Michael Koole, prosecuting, told the court that the incident took place on March 19, this year, at Kokoso new site in Kumasi, at about 2:10 am.

Prosecution claimed Duah ordered the victim to surrender all her money, but realising she had no money, he allegedly matched her from the room to a nearby uncompleted building under threat of killing her.

Insp Koole said the suspect assaulted and raped the woman, resulting in bruises and injuries on her face and other parts of the body.

On March 24, at about 8am, the victim spotted Duah at Kokoso and identified him as the assistant.
