The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly has disbursed GH¢106,000 to 103 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Accra.
The beneficiaries include the blind, deaf, albinos, physically and intellectually challenged amongst others.
Ms. Rita Odoley Sowah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of LaDMA, said the disbursement was a two per cent deduction from the Member of Parliament (MP) Common Fund meant to support PWDs in the area to engage in economic activities.
She indicated that the assembly had disbursed moneys to 300 PWDs within the municipality since it was created four years ago, to lessen the burden imposed on families and friends of the PWDs.
Mrs. Sowah said the assembly had set up a committee to check the selection of beneficiaries and disbursement of the funds.
The MCE pleaded with parents not to keep PWDs children indoors, but rather send them to school to acquire knowledge and skills.
Nii Amasah Namoale, Member of Parliament (MP) for La Dade-kotopon, advised the PWDs association in La to be transparent in their day to day activities, in order to attract more members.
He advised the association to move away from partisan politics because that would only break their front and render their efforts fruitless.
Madam Adoley, a beneficiary, thanked the assembly and the MP for assisting the PWDs in La and assured of a stronger PWDs association to achieve a common goal.
