Kwahu Easter Marathon April 20

The second edition of the annual Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon (KEMM), has been fixed for Saturday, April 20.

The 42.2 kilometer standard marathon, an initiative of Kwahu Traditional Council (KTC) and Medivent Consult, would commence at Nkawkaw (GOIL filling station) and end at the Palace of the Omanhene of Kwahu, in Abene.

A statement from the organizers said, the Marathon, forms part of activities for the 2019 Easter festivities and an opportunity to promote tourism in the area.

The statement said details of the competition would be unveiled tomorrow at the formal launch at the head office of StarTimes Ghana Limited.

It is also aimed at promoting healthy living and unearth talents in the long distances for Ghana.

The statement said the 2019 edition would be an improved version of the previous one, as the prize package for winners, have been improved, whilst arrangements are in place to ensure smooth participation of all athletes.

According to the statement, the Marathon would provide participants with a unique and exciting experience on the famous mountains of Kwahu, through some principal towns such as Obomeng, Mpreaso, Nkwatia and Abetifi.

 According to the organizers, over 1,000 athletes are expected to participate in the unique marathon, with over GH¢20, 000 worth of prizes at stake for outstanding participants.

The Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon was first held in 2018 with Mathew Vikuba Nantiere, of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) winning the maiden edition.

Nanatiere, was sponsored to participate in the 2019 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon and placed 45th out of over 60,000 participants. –GNA
