Kwabenya Police Station attack: Another fugitive grabbed

One more fugitive has been grabbed in connection with the deadly attack at the Kwabenya District Police Station, resulting in the murder of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Ashilevi, about six months ago, at Baastona, in Accra.

The arrest of David Ofori, 25, also known as Dickson Ofori, brings the number of suspects arrested regarding the Kwabenya incidence, to five.

Ofori is currently in the custody of the police, assisting in investigations, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) George Alex Mensah, told the Ghanaian Times, in Accra yesterday.

He said Ofori was arrested by the Baastona Divisional Police in connection with a stealing case, on Tuesday, adding that assorted mobile phones were retrieved from him.

The Police Commander said two more suspects, Edem Rockson, and Chibuzor Akwuba, a Nigerian, were being sought by the police.

DCOP Mensah appealed to the public to provide reliable information to the police that could led to the arrest of other fugitives.

It would be recalled that about six armed robbers in January this year, attacked the Kwabenya District Police Command in the Ga East District of the Greater Accra Region, shot ASP Ashilevi, who was on duty, resulting in his death, and they freed seven suspects remanded in custody.

ASP Ashilevi was rushed to the Police Hospital, from where he was referred to the 37 Military Hospital, but died shortly on arrival.

The Police named the escapee suspects, including a Nigerian as Chibuzor, 34, Dickson Ofori, 25, Edem Rockson, 32, Prince Osei, 27, Emmanuel Kotey,21, Kofi Darko,21, and Attah Kwadwo.

According to the Police Akwuba and Dickson were on remand for robbery while Darko was held for possessing firearms without authority and Rockson was being held for stealing.

The others Kotei, Osei and Kwadwo were held for other offences, and four of the escapees, who were earlier arrested have since been arraigned and convicted.
