Kwabeng Students In Accident

Accident A female student died on the spot, and 60 other students of the Kwabeng Senior High School in the Eastern Region, were injured when their school bus was involved in an accident.

They were returning from an excursion to the Boti Falls.

The overloaded school bus was said to have veered off the road while the driver was negotiating a curve near Adawso, on the Mamfe-Koforidua mountainous road and fell on its side in a ditch along the road on Friday evening.

The body of the deceased, Harriet Osei, 16, has been deposited at the morgue of the Koforidua Central Hospital where 27 of the injured have also been admitted. Thirty-three others were earlier treated and discharged.

The Eastern Regional MTTU Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Tetteh, updating The Ghanaian Times on the accident yesterday, said preliminary investigations indicated that the bus was overloaded with about 60 students, beyond its limit of 20 passengers.

He said police and ambulance teams which rushed to the scene found Harriet trapped under the fallen school bus, with registration number GV 946Z. From Ama Tekyiwaa Ampadu Nyarko, Koforidua
