The establishment of the Ministry of Zongo and Inner Cities Development by the Nana Akufo-Addo administration has continued to receive positive response from the public, especially the Zongos.
One of such groups, ‘Youth for Zongo for Nana and Bawumia’, a youth wing of the NPP in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region, has praised the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the excellent and visionary leadership exhibited toward the development of the Zongos and Muslim community.
In a statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the youth wing, Tanko Aminu, “the creation of this ministry is a step in the right direction since it will help address challenges, such as proper resourcing of the Islamic schools into modern basic schools, reconstruction of our drainage systems to solve sanitation issues and construction of more health facilities”.
According to the statement, “we are particularly impressed with the commitment shown to our communities in terms of this development initiative by the President”.
The statement further expressed gratitude to the government for the prompt setting-up of the Hajj Board, made of competent members with vast expertise to run the affairs of Hajj.
It hoped that the board would effectively deal with the challenges characterised by poor pre-departure camping of pilgrims and late departure.
The statement, however, called on the various leadership of the Zongos (chiefs, Imams, opinion leaders and youth groups), to pray and give their total support to the President and his vice, the Zongo minister and members of the Hajj Board to achieve their mandate.
