Kotoko to face Coton Sport Jan. 13

Asante Kotoko commenced camping yesterday ahead of their CAF Confederations Cup playoff against Cameroonian giants, Coton Sport de Garoua.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the club, the team is embarking on a five-day training camp that will break on Sunday for the ‘local derby’ against rivals Ashgold  for the J.A. Kufuor Cup.

The main target for the Porcupine Warriors, however, is their upcoming clash against the Cameroonian counterparts on January 13 in Yaoundé.

That will be followed by the second leg clash in Kumasi to decide which of the two sides advance to the next stage after two legs.

Kotoko edged out Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 on aggregate to set up a date with Coton Sport.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s “Ultimate Sports show” Mr Sarfo Duku said the team was determined to qualify for the group stage of the continental championship after a nine year absence.

The PRO described Coton Sport as experienced campaigners of the competition hence the reason to embark on early preparations ahead of the fixture.

He said the game would be a difficult one but assured the team was ready for the challenge.

He assured that management was giving Head Coach C.K. Akonnor the necessary support ahead of the clash and also revealed talks were far advance to beef up the squad once the team qualifies for the group stage.

The PRO disclosed that the team was attaching utmost importance to the game against Ashantigold on Sunday for the J.A Kufour Cup.

He said Ashgold was a strong side that will offer the Porcupines the acid test ahead of the crunch Coton Sport game.
