Lugarusic waves good bye to the Reds

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have confirmed the contract termination of Head Coach Zdravko Lugarusic after just 11 matches in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The Porcupine Warriors axed the Croatian trainer after Sunday’s goalless uninspiring peformance with Ebusua Dwarfs at home.

The decision to fire him, according to information on the club’s website, was taken after an emergency meeting by the management of the club.

“Zdravko’s contract has been terminated. He has accepted the official notification given to him. Assistant coach, Godwin Ablordey will train with the team until further notice,” the club’s Head of Communications Obed Acheampong told Asantekotokosc.com.

Lugarusic was appointed on January 10 and has since won five matches, drawn four and lost two in 11 outings.

The Croat leaves with Kotoko in second place; four points behind leaders WAFA.

Meanwhile, Kotoko has named their former player, Godwin Ablordey as the interim coach of the club following the sacking of Zdravko Logarusic.

The Croat was fired by the club’s management on Sunday night two hours after their goalless draw with Ebuasua Dwarfs.

An emergency meeting that approved the sack of Lugarusic also moved for the appointment of his assistant, Ablordey to take charge of the team until a substantive coach is found.

According to an official Kotoko report, Zdravko acknowledged the need for change in the technical direction of the club and therefore accepted Management’s decision to cut ties with him.

Latest development indicates that Assistant Black Stars coach, Maxwell Konadu, is high on the list of coaches tipped to take over the technical reins of the club.

What seem to have created a cloud of uncertainty over the entire arrangement is Konadu’s attachment with the Black Stars where he is still the assistant coach of the national team.

Having worked in that capacity under Kwesi Appiah and Avram Grant makes him a good choice for the Reds as he comes with a rich experience and exposure.

At the moment, Kotoko is monitoring the situation and hoping there will be some truth in reports that the FA reshuffle of technical teams would be carried out.
