Kotoko maul BA United jump to 3rd spot

AMO Frimpong scored and assisted another as Kumasi Asante Kotoko relied on Richard Mpong’s late brace to beat relegation-bound BA United 4-2 yesterday in the First Capitl Plus League match-day 28 at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

The visitors started proceedings strongly but were naive upfront and só could not break through the Kotoko defence, despite enjoying a fair share of play.

But their agility only lasted for 10 minutes and Kotoko took full control. Amos Frimpong completed a nice build-up down the right when he soared to head home Eric Donkor’s corner in the 17th minute.

Obed Owusu followed up with the second goal eight minutes later by feeding on a pass from Frimpong and beating Nana Egyir with his first touch before hitting in with his left.

Mustapha Mohammed and Stephen Anokye came up against a lonely Abeiku Ainooson but Mustapha Mohammed although succeeding to draw the Kotoko defender to himself, shot feebly off target.

The Brong Ahafo lads completed the first half with Prince Ameyaw’s dangerious shot two minutes into injury time which Joseph Addo tipped out on a stretch.

Kotoko began the second half once again on the back-foot and the visitors made them pay for their poor play when they drew level through Abdul Jabla in the 55th and 75th minutes respectively.

This provoked the vernom of the Porcupines and substitute Richard Mpong restored the lead for the hosts in the 79th minute by concluding to Obed Owusu’s assist.

The goal brought back control to Kotoko and the midfielder put proceedings behind the visitors four minutes later when he jumped to head home Attah Kusi’s cross.
