The Board of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has terminated the appointment of four managers of the hospital, for gross incompetence.
They are Mrs. Elizabeth Bruce, Director of Pharmacy and 24-Hour Pharmacy, Mr. Eric Kwaku Kyei, Principal Pharmacist/Pharmacy Manager, Mrs. Augustina Dankyi, Pharmacy Accountant, and Mr. Daniel Eledi, Stores Assistant.
A statement issued by the board and management in Accra yesterday, said the termination followed a forensic audit commissioned by the Ministry of Health last year, which established that an amount of GH¢ 946,574.29 was not accounted for from sales revenue at the 24-Hour Pharmacy.
It said an administrative enquiry commissioned by the Board, subsequently established the culpability of the four individuals in respect of the unaccounted funds.
The statement said subsequently, the board convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday, and decided to terminate their appointments, adding that “the Board’s decision was without prejudice to the ongoing criminal investigations being carried out by the Economic and Organised Crime Organization (EOCO) in respect of the money”.
It assured the staff and stakeholders that the board remained committed to ensuring that the assets of the hospital were protected.
