Korle-Bu ‘doc’ jailed 2yrs

William Mrfo-suspectThe  ex-convict who posed as a doctor at the Korle-BuTeaching Hospital in Accra, would spend the next two years in prison.

An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. M.P. Essandoh on Tuesday, sentenced William Marfo, 34, for impersonating a public officer and stealing,

The accused pleaded guilty to the two charges.

It is recalled that The Ghanaian Times of December 3, 2014, reported that Marfo was arrested in a doctor’s apparel at the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Marfo was said to have served a 13 month jail sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison for fraud; besides hiring the services of taxi drivers on several occasions and absconding without paying.

The Korle-Bu District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Peter Yembilla told The Ghanaian Times that on November 28, at about 2 p.m., a matron at the Amenti Ward of the hospital, Janet Matilda Hinson, spotted the suspect in doctor’s overall loitering around the ward, and confronted him as to his mission there.

He said Marfo in response told Janet he was a doctor at the hospital and pointed at one of the offices.

DSP Yembilla said when further quizzed he told the matron that he was rather a doctor at the 37 Military Hospital, and had brought a patient to the ward.

The matron, according to DSP Yembilla, further probed as to why he was in a Korle- Bu doctor’s overall, while claiming to be a doctor at the 37 Military Hospital.

The Commander said Janet, upon suspicion, raised an alarm, adding that the suspect attempted bolting but was arrested by the hospital security.

DSP Yembilla Marfo said after his arrest, Marfo denied being a doctor but rather a blood donor at the hospital.
