Kojo Barnni shines at PGA Western Tour

Kojo Barnni return a gross score of 285 over four days to win the maiden PGA Western Tour held at the Damang, Nsuta, Bogoso and Tarkwa Golf clubs over the weekend.

The 2017 and 2018 Gold Fields PGA champion who is also the Head pro at Tarkwa Golf Club was fifth on day one with five strokes behind the leader Emos Korblah, but bounced back to second position on day two, maintained same spot at day three and beat Emos on final day with seven shots after playing five under (-5) to emerge winner for the GH¢ 9,000.00 prize.

Barnni told the Times Sports after his victory that the win will boost his confidence ahead of the US Masters qualifier on May 13, 2019 in Florida, in the United States of America.

“I am aiming higher this year so fans should forgive my absence in local tournaments. I have played in Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone and other African Countries for close to two decades and it is time for me to prove to those out there what we have here in Ghana.”

Maxwell Owusu Bonsu of Royal Golf Club in Kumasi was first runner up with just two strokes behind the winner.

Owusu Bonsu who qualified as professional golfer not more than three months ago scored 287 to beat experienced golfers like Emos Korblah, Godwin Sai, Anthony Gbenyor, Philip Paitey, and Lucky Ayisah, all of Achimota Golf Club and Baba Akologo, Francis Torgah, Kwame Ligbidi, Ernest Opoku from the Tema Country Golf Club.

Lucky Ayisah, Emos Korblah, P.Q Amponsah, Kwame Ligbidi placed third, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Kwame Ligbidi and Lucky Ayisah played the best round of golf in the tournament on the final day both scoring six under (-6).

Prizes were awarded to participants from the top to the 18th placed golfer.

The next calendar competition for the Ghana professional golfers will be from May 8-12, 2019 which will be the 62nd Asantehene Invitational Golf Championship in Kumasi.
