KNUST Unity Hall Gutted By Fire

Fire men examing the extent of damage at the scene .  222KNUSTFire  gutted part of the Unity  Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) yesterday afternoon destroying items worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

According to sources it started about 3 pm at the sixth Floor of the eight-storey building, completely destroying 10 rooms.
The cause of it was not immediately known.

Briefing the Media, Divisional Fire Officer, Francis Darko-Kono of the KNUST Fire Station, said the swift intervention of his team prevented the fire from spreading to the entire floor.

He said it took the team of Fire Service personnel more than two hours to bring the situation under control.

Mr. Darko-Kono said, the availability of four fire hydrants within the campus assisted in bringing the fire under control on time.

The Ghanaian ‘Times’ investigations revealed that the affected rooms were among those being occupied by some delegates attending an annual general meeting of Kuapa Kokoo Limited, and it was believed the fire started from the room of one of the delegates.

The Ghana National Fire Service had commenced an investigation into the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire.
