Keta Municipal Assembly endorse president’s nominee

The Keta Municipal Assembly, in the Volta Region has confirmed the President’s nominee, Godwin Edudzi Effah 34, an accountant of the Keta Senior High Technical School as the Municipal Chief Executive.

The assembly also endorsed Wilson Kofi Bonuedi as the Presiding Member (PM) of the assembly.

The two elected officials incidentally had 28 votes for and two against to record a 93.3 per cent approval after an election conducted by the Electoral Commission.

The outcome of the results left the residents in a dilemma after a group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters last week embarked on demonstration threatening mayhem if the President does not rescind his decision on the nominee.

The election which was witnessed by the Volta Regional Minister, Archibald Letsa; the previous MCE for Keta, Seth Yormewu who has been moved to the Anlo District Assembly after the creation of the Anlo Assembly; the Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Major Woanya; traditional authorities and a large crowd from the community.

The MCE and the PM were sworn into office by the Keta Circuit Court Judge, Kwame Folley.

Mr Effah, addressing the constituents and the assembly members after the peaceful election, expressed gratitude to the president for the confidence reposed in him and the assembly members for overwhelmingly endorsing him and assured that he would use his expertise to help promote the development of the area.

“A new dawn has broken let us all unite and help promote the holistic development of the Keta municipality, the numerous government policies and programmes called for the involvement of all stakeholders hence the need for all to get on board to achieve the desired results.

Mr Letsa, who in an earlier address urged the assembly members not to disappoint the president and commended them for approving the nominee to speed up the development of the area.

“This bold decision you have taken will send a clear message to the whole country that the people of Keta are solidly behind the president and urged the MCE to put in his maximum effort to promote government’s agenda for the area.
